IRB Barcelona is a world-class research centre devoted to understanding fundamental biological questions about human health and disease. Founded in October 2005 by the Government of Catalonia and the University of Barcelona (UB), the Institute seeks to advance the limits of scientific knowledge in the Biomedical Sciences by promoting multidisciplinary research of excellence. The IRB is a part of the Barcelona Institute of Technology (BIST), an alliance that brings together seven flagship research centres. IRB participates in the extensive technological and scientific platforms and facilities available in the area, including the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), home to one of the most powerful computing resources in Europe. Fran Supek
Fran Supek, is an ICREA professor based at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), a part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology. He leads the Genome Data Science laboratory, which specializes in large-scale statistical analyses of genomic, transcriptomic and epigenomic data. The Supek research group strives to elucidate the links between mutational processes, natural selection, gene function and disease phenotypes by means of statistical genome analyses. In particular, the lab use cutting-edge machine learning methodologies for exploring massive genomic data sets. The group has a strong focus on bioinformatics and genomics of cancer, and more specifically on discovery of drug vulnerability and drug resistance mechanisms of tumors by analysis of genomic markers. In DECIDER, the Supek group applies their expertise on genome analyses and tumor evolution studies. Read more about Fran Supek here.
